The US military has confirmed the authenticity of newly released video showing US forces indiscriminately firing on Iraqi civilians. On Monday, the website WikiLeaks.org posted footage taken from a US military helicopter in July 2007 as it killed twelve people and wounded two children. The dead included two employees of the Reuters news agency, photographer Namir Noor-Eldeen and driver Saeed Chmagh. We speak with WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange and Salon.com blogger Glenn Greenwald.

Hi John, loved your documentary entitled “Speaking Freely”. After watching this program I got to thinking about other aspects of the Corporatocracy Empire, namely what entity is responsible for propaganda? Logically the Corporate Media would be serving the role of packaging up the final product or inventing spin for any inconvenient truths that slip out. This is where things get complicated. If we go by past events in modern history than the window of opportunity to stop the Corporatocracy by peaceful means has passed. Nazi Germany had complete control over the media to the point that most Germans had no idea that their Nation was running extermination factories right under their noses. Our situation becomes bleaker when you consider that in Germany, before Hitler came to power, politics was still decided by stump speeches and town to town meet and greets. What chance do we have in an age where corporate media will only allow political exposure to those candidates who are already chosen for us by the Corporatocracy???

This video is disturbing in many ways, the men’s laughter and their eagerness to take lives are, of course, extremely chilling. The thing that hit me the most however, was toward the end of the film, when you could see the two children in the van that the men were asking to hit. In what way do we justify war when we put people behind our guns that are eagerly waiting to execute children? What possible justification is there for this?
When does a man get to the point where he can break two of the unspoken rules of warfare, denying the wounded help, and the slaughter of children? When does this person think that what he is doing is in any way “right” or “just”?
This is exactly what keeps me up at night.

The real value of the video isn’t to expose a crime–the original crime was the invasion of Iraq–but rather, it’s value is to expose the reality, the randomness, the inhumanity of warfare…and thereby make palpable the nature of our collective complacency regarding the cruelty being perpetrated by an elite group of capitalists in the name of “US interests”. I know of no-one personally who would wittingly condone the suffering of millions in order to supply themselves with ‘luxury’s’. By definition, the complex of players promoting this aggressive-globalization tactic (invasion/’warfare’,neo-liberalism, etc.) are sociopaths/psychopaths. We need to end governance ‘by the sociopaths, for the sociopaths’; instead move toward socially responsible societies created by an integrated world-community and motivated by sustainable economies, whose goals are to leave succeeding generations with an ever more livable world–and all that implies.

BAU for those soldiers that is why they talk and act the way they do. It may seem odd to us but that is their craft.. they are trained to kill. If they did not act in such a way their reaction time would cost them their lives.
People over there are crafty. They have to be that way to fight a bigger foe. What if they had been carrying weapons in a camera bag?? what if that was an RPG? we would have some dead soldiers.. would that be a better outcome??
I do not condone our reasons for being there BUT WHY are we trying to place our troops in bad light.
Vietnam all over again. Let us crap on our troops some more.
What happened to these people–these soldiers–at what point did their hearts and minds begin to believe that what they are doing what is right? I am shaking from their laughter and crawling out of my skin. I am so sad and frightened for our human race.
